Mom's Granola

Like I've said before, I'm not sure where mom gets all her recipes but this one here is amazing.  If you like homemade granola, this is the best ever.  I have tried many homemade versions and have enjoyed many but wow you gotta try this one at least once.  It is not the cheapest thing to make, but if you can control your eating to reasonable portions it makes a ton.  If you have very little self-restraint you will eat it fast. Guaranteed!

Ingredients:
8 cups rolled oats (I prefer old fashioned oats but instant will work fine)
6 cups of Wheaties cereal (I use the Wheaties Fuel and 1 box is just over 6 cups)
2 cups of wheat germ
2 tsp of salt
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups raisins
2 cups golden raisins
2 cups Craisins
1 cup slivered almonds
1/2 cup honey
1 cup warm water
1 cup oil
3 tsp vanilla or 1 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1 1/2 tsp almond extract

Directions:
Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.  Mix all wet ingredients in a sauce pan and heat until warm. Slowly pour liquid over the dry ingredients while mixing well to cover entire contents of the bowl.  Spread mixture onto two baking sheets and place in oven for 2 hours at 200 degrees.  Rotate and remix granola half way through.

Notes:
Once it cools down I like to add a couple cups of milk chocolate chips.  Really you can add any type of dried fruits and nuts.  My mother likes to add freeze dried strawberries. Once again this is a recipe that is easy to cater to you personal preferences.  It is also a large enough recipe that it is easy to divide and make everyone happy.  Staci can have here semi-sweet chips and I can have milk chocolate.
